Description | The slipstream class shuttle is derived from the famous sector racing circuits of Antares 4, these ships are stripped down to the bare essentials, a small crew cabin that holds three people, minimal amount of shields, and a massive engine to propel the ship through space. What the ship lacks in firepower as well as defensive armaments it makes up in sheer speed. Due to the sleek long lines of the ship as well as an outstanding power to weight ratio, the shuttle performs well in atmospheric conditions, sub light and warp speeds. The ships speed is also the downfall of the class. When pushed it can hit speeds in excess of warp 8 but at a sacrifice of life support, structural integrity, and shielding, dumping every bit of power from the M/AM reactor to the engines. A top speed of 8.8 can be sustained for 2 hours until the reactor goes into emergency shutdown mode, stranding the occupants of the shuttle for two hours while the the powerplant cools down and recycles itself. The sleek fins that are a signature of the class are what give the slipstream it's speed. The fins allow the warp field produced by the engine to be elongated, reducing the power consumption of the engine as well increasing speed. In sub orbital and atmospheric flight, the fins are retracted to increase stability as well as create a smaller footprint when landing or stored in a shuttle bay.
