Session 3: Fear of the Dark
Location: Engineering
Jan examined the bomb that was stuck to the reactor core; it consisted of a small anti-matter warhead, obviously ripped from a torpedo, wired to a plasma charge and the base of the bomb. The bomb was held on with powerful electromagnets to the reactor casing.
“Fuck, how to remove it without triggering it…†Jan said to himself, examining what was obviously a multiple fail-safe trigger mechanism.
He looked over to the badly burned Orion, collapsed in a heap on the deck a few feet away. Looking to the other 2 henchmen, one of whom was starting to move, Jan pulled out an antique semi-auto side arm that had been in his family since Earth’s cold war. Pulling the slide back with a satisfying snap, he walked over to the henchman that was regaining consciousness.
“Rise and shine motherfucker, how do I disarm the bomb?†Jan said, with the gun in the man’s face.
“Fuck…you..ass-“ the man started, before Jan shot him in the forehead.
*sigh* "So that's how it's gonna be then..." Jan said to himself.
He walked over to the other man, still unconscious, and shot him in the back of the head.
Walking back to the Orion, he slid the clip out of his pistol, popped some extra shells into it, and reloaded.
“Alone at last.†Jan said, coldly regarding the Orion.
"So we are.." She looked up, her face was blistered , though her eyes still showed the anger that it had. "I suppose you want me to un-trigger the bomb from your piece of shit vessel?"
"I already know that you're not going to cooperate right away, but that's fine with me." Jan said, looking the Orion over. The burns from the steam vent covered 60% of her body, and the bruising on her legs definitely indicated broken bones.
"It's not like you're going anywhere." Jan said, smiling.
"You have a point," she started to cough up blood. "We have a dilemma then. You can either promise to get me medical care, and I'll talk about how to disable the bomb, I doubt that you have the capability to do it on your own."
"Look, I'm not gonna bullshit you, okay?" Jan said, walking over to the bomb.
He looked at the bomb for a minute, then grasped a green wire and ripped it out, making the bomb fall to the deck.
"I don't really give a good fuck what you know or don't know..." Jan said, walking back.
"But I'm gonna torture you anyway..." Jan said, grabbing a plasma torch.
The woman's eyes lit up with fear. "What what do you want! I'll do anything!" She tried crawling away but the sharp pains in her leg prevented her from making it very far. "Have some mercy!"
"You can say anything you want, because I've heard it all before." Jan said, lighting the torch.
"All you can do is...pray for a quick death...which...you ain't gonna get." Jan said, grabbing one of her arms.
She let out a gasp as Jan grabbed her arm and closed her eyes. "There is a small subspace charge still connected on there!" She hope that the last minute piece of information she hoped would save her from the torch.
"Interesting, is it controlled by the remote in your pocket?" Jan said, bringing the torch perilously close to her wrist.
"Yes Yes!!! Take it take it! Just don't burn me with the torch!" She had started crying, the heat from the plasma torch felt like intense pain on her already burned arm.
Jan slid the remote out of her back pocket slowly, keeping the plasma torch near her face.
"That wasn't so hard now was it?" Jan said, putting the remote in one of his pockets.
"Here's a reward." Jan said, turning up the torch.
Pressing the torch against her hand, he burned a hole through her palm and out the back of her hand, ignoring her screams.
"Had enough yet?" Jan said, letting her arm drop to the deck.
"Yes what do you want?" She screamed with tears streaming down her face. "Anything, anything! Sex! drugs! Money! I'll do anything for you.
Jan started laughing, with an almost inhuman look on his face. His expression suddenly changed to a cold, uncaring look.
"If I had the time...I'd do things you'd never imagine. Your mind and body would be so broken, you'd be begging for me to let you kill yourself." Jan said, flipping off the torch.
"But I don't, I'm the only thing keeping this heap together, and it's a non-stop job." Jan said, looking around the ruined engine bay.
"For now, I want all of your spare equipment, supplies, anti-matter, and all the latinum you have on board." Jan said, obviously annoyed that he couldn't spend more time torturing her.
"If my comrades were as efficient as they always are, your ship should be a blood drenched ghost ship." Jan said, getting close to the Orion. "If you ever see the Warden, Jones, or me again...remember this day, then run the other way." Jan said, stepping on the Orion's burned hand with enough force to crack a bone.
