Mission:
Session 7: Changes
Location: Warden Engineering Deck
Timeline: 1 day before departure
It had been a hectic 24 hours for Jan. After stowing the Foxhound aboard the Warden's nearly empty hangar, he found his former quarters to be in reasonably good condition, especially since the door was missing all of its control circuits, evidently someone had attempted to bypass it, but only succeeded in jamming the door completely shut.
Engineering was more his home anyway, and aside from most of the tools being gone and several power conduits out of alignment, was largely intact and functional. He spent the better part of 8 hours realigning the conduits, repairing the EPS system, making adjustments to the port and starboard nacelle, and creatively repairing the antigravity generators with equipment that "just happened to be lying around" in the next docking bay.
"Alright. Computer, status report." Jan said, fiddling with an old compression rifle.
*EPS Grid integrity at 93%, Structural Integrity Field at 95%, Replicators functional at 56%, Anti-Matter Containment at 98% field strength, Phaser Banks 1,2,3 and 4 operating at 80% efficiency, Sens---*The computer stated, before being interrupted.
"Cease report." Jan said. He scanned the rest of the report manually, finding minor problems with long range sensor resolution and the impulse engines.
"Hmm, sensors just need an adjustment, Impulse engines need a new injector manifold, and we.......Don't have one." Jan said to himself, scrolling through the inventory.
"Computer, estimate how long the impulse engines can run on the current injection manifold." Jan said, approaching a replicator.
"Coffee, Black, Double Strong" Jan ordered.
*Impulse engines require immediate overhaul, recommend shutdown procedure immediately.*
"I don't remember asking your opinion." Jan said, annoyed at the typical Cardassian computer logic.
Jan pulled up the schematics on a workbench, and sipped his coffee while studying them.
"Oh....F...God DAMMIT." Jan swore, spitting out the vile concoction. Whatever it was, it was most certainly not recognizable as coffee.
Setting the "coffee" aside, he created a 3d model of the manifold in his eyepiece, looking for a way to fabricate one from available components.
After several hours and several failed attempts with the replicator, Jan finally decided to just rip the old manifold off, scrub it clean with an ultrasonic emitter, laser weld cracks shut, and shove the newly "Rebuilt" manifold back into the engine.
"Okay, Computer, initialize Impulse Engine restart." Jan said, monitoring the control panels
*Initialized*
*Impulse engines running at 85% efficiency*
"Good enough, can't ask anymore out of a 39 year old rebuilt engine." Jan said to himself. "Computer, Time?"
*0535 Hours*
"Christ, I've been working since 1300, I need a break." Jan said, stretching and sitting back in one of the few chairs left in engineering.
