533 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Session One - Jailhouse Rock
Location: Flausten
Timeline: 3 days ago

Jan took a draw from his glass, the cheap alcohol stinging the back of his throat. He glanced at his chronometer, *10 minutes late* he thought. His client was supposed to have met with him by now.
“8677.” A voice said behind Jan.

Jan turned around and saw his client, a cardassian captain.

“ 305” Jan replied, finishing the code.

The Cardassian took the seat across from Jan, a disruptor pistol in plain sight on his belt.
“You have the chips?” the Cardassian asked.

Jan fingered the 2 isolinear chips in his coat pocket, next to his old type 1 phaser.

“You have my money? 1 brick is my price.” Jan said, grasping the chips.

“As we agreed upon, your money.” the Cardassian said, laying the latinum brick on the table, making a resounding thunk. “Now, the weapon specs.” The cardassian said, eyeing Jan warily.

“Of course, the transphasic torpedo specs.” Jan said, in a low voice, while sliding the chips across the table. These were not easy to obtain you know…” Jan said.

“I’m not going to give you more money than we agreed on, no matter how difficult it was.” The cardassian said, sternly.

“I was not asking, merely stating.” Jan said. Jan moved to stand, “Pleasure doing bui-“ he started.

“Hold on there, I must verify these.” The cardassian said, producing an isolinear chip reader.

*shit* Jan thought, sitting back down. He carefully put his hand in his coat pocket under the table, wrapping his fingers around his phaser.

The Cardassian slotted the first chip into the reader, revealing a standard photon torpedo schematic. “This is nothing more than a photon torpedo!” the cardassian yelled in anger. He went for his disruptor.

“Wait!” Jan said. “The first chip shows the delivery system, I wasn’t sure you guys had those specs. The other chip has the warhead specs.” Jan said, trying to sound calm.

“We will see.” The cardassian said, slotting the other chip in the reader. The reader made frantic beeping and a loud wailing noise instead of displaying data.

“What the h-“ the cardassian started, before the reader exploded in his hand, shredding it. The cardassian cried out in pain and anger, trying to get his disruptor with his other hand.

“Adios” Jan said, firing his phaser through his coat, striking the cardassian in the groin. The cardassian reeled and collapsed. *Dammit, stun* Jan thought, looking at the setting. He grabbed his brick, stuffing into one of his larger pockets. *damn this thing is heavy* Jan thought. He took another drink from his glass and pushed past the other people in the bar. He spotted more cardassians heading toward the bar at a dead run. *The captain must’ve had an open commlink* Jan saw a rusted streetlight ahead of the Cardassian’s path, he pulled out his phaser and changed the setting, and fired at the streetlight, making it collapse onto the lead cardassian, startling the others. Jan jumped over a railing and disappeared around an alley.

“God dammit, I got to get out of this system….but how?” Jan said to himself, pushing past some trash.

“I gotta hitch a ride somewhere..” Jan said to himself, heading toward the nearest docking facility.
