Lottie looked uncomfortable looking in the tiny mirror in her quarters squinted a little at her reflection. Where the hell was Sky when you needed her?
Lottie was terrible at dressing up, she felt very awkward as she concentrated applying mascara to her lashes as Sky had showed her but instead twice she had invertible poked her eyeball instead. Now her eyes were red, blotchy and streaming. Certainly not a good look. Irritably she flung down the spindly brush and cupped cold water onto her face to wash away the heavy layer of power she had covered her face in. The water was blissful to cleansing her skin but mixed with the black thick mascara it burned her sore eyes further more.
Howling into the towel she pressed her face into Lottie could understand why most women did this regally to impress others. She tried it and now look. Bravely she looked up to the mirror again and signed at her reflection. Her eyes were now red and puffy as if she had been sobbing for hours. Snarling she through the towel into the basin with the mascara and stomped around her quarters tugging a fresh set of clothes from the closet and pulling them over her head. Critically she looked in the mirror pulling off a loose threat from the top. Perhaps it would be worth while buy some clothes that weren't falling about around her. Soon there would be no need to undress, just pull the frayed parts hard enough and they would simply fall off.
Easy access she shrugged brushing her hair one last time.
Miller had already gone aboard the station with the Captain and fresh with the promise of lunch Lottie was heading over herself. Although standing at the air lock she wished dearly James was with her to serve as a distraction should she feel the urge to reek havoc. There was so much she wanted to do, so much revenge she wanted to reap against the Federation. Though the station key crewmen were feisty looking that wouldn't stop her from toying with them.
Having dropped the plant off with Jones and received the payment, Miller had departed ways with Jones and was headed to meet Charlotte for lunch. Along his way he passed several Starfleet officers, and that got him thinking about what if he had remained at the academy instead of leaving. Certainly things would have turned out different for me, for example I probably would have been assigned to some posting in the middle of nowhere or perhaps I would have found my true calling as a scientist thought Miller.
Arriving at the agreed spot Miller looked around for Charlotte, spotting her he made his way over. “You look good.†Miller said as he noticed her red eyes, but decided not to say anything.
Blushing a little Lottie smiled sweetly. "Thank you. Did everything go arlight with Jones?"
"Good as can be expected." Miller replied, leaving out the part where they had to threaten plants to get paid.
"Good, good. So.... did you spy anywhere nice to eat or do you want to explore a little first?"
"Lets look around first, I would hate to find out we missed the best place to eat on the station." Miller said as he eyed a restaurant which looked way too cheap to bring Charlotte to. "Plus it'll give us a chance to look around at the shops to see if there is anything worth buying."
Lopping her arm in his Lottie smiled sweetly. "I see like me the latium is burning a hole in your pocket too?" She fell into his stride craning her neck to look at him properly. "Noe are we shopping for ourselves or for the Warden?"
"For ourselves mostly, however if you see something the ships might need get it..." Miller said trailing off when he saw a black leather jacket for sale. Almost instantly the impulse to buy it hit him, walking over Miller tried it on and was delighted to see it fit him. "What do you think?" Miller said calling out to Charlotte.
"Looks good," Lottie answered watching Jame parade himself in front of the mirror. "Gives you a harder edge." Her finger trailed the rack of clothes beside her as James continued to admire himself making her smile stretch.
Playfully she pulled at brown coat in a similar design to Millers just several sizes smaller and hung down around her shins. She enjoyed the feeling of leather against her threadbare clothes and the way it molded to her curves when she finally pulled the zip to the top. She moved to the mirror beside James a studied her reflection with a surprise. She only picked it up to tease him, but the coat actually looked quite good.
"It's almost like someone made that jacket specifically for you." Miller said as he admired her new look. "Do you want it? My treat."
Lottie turned surprised at the sound of Miller's voice. "What! I mean you don't have to. I can pay for my own goods, but yes I like it."
"Don't worry about it." Miller replied as he fished some latinum out of his pocket. "Money isn't everything, I didn't join the Warden because I was looking to get rich, and besides I'm sure there will be more jobs down the road to make up for any lost money now."
She watched the money exchange hands. "Alright then, I'll buy lunch."
They linked arms again and left the shop to continue further along the promanarde pausing here and there to peer through the windows as the passed.
"This looks like a good place to eat." Miller said pointing out a restaurant that looked cozy and could probably pass a health and food inspection at a moments notice. "Shall we?"
She wasn't going to say it out loud but the aroma that was wafted from the restaurant James pointed would have made her suggest it to him. "Yes lets, it smells wonderful."
Clearly the restaurant had been created to attract the wondering person judging by it homely warm decoration, the soft twinkle of a piano coming from an unknown location and the lengthy menus choice would have enough to entice even the fussiest of eaters.
Having lived on the meager and limited choice of foods on the Warden Lottie looked over the menu once they settled into their seats with wide eyes. Most of them she had never heard of in her life, some she couldn't even pronounce flicking through the menu that was more like a novel. She looked over at James thumbing his way through also. "Do you recognize any of this? Any suggestions?"
"Lets see..." Miller hummed as he scanned down the menu. "Perhaps you would like a chicken tetrazzini, or maybe a steak? One thing I can be sure of is you do not want any Klingon food unless of course you like feeling your food wriggle down your throat still alive."
Childishly Lottie pulled a face at the idea. "No I think I'll be sensable and have steak or somehing safe," she chuckled softly.
"That's good because I don't think I could enjoy my meal and watch you eat live food at the same time." Miller said as he closed and lowered his menu.
"So have you two decided on what you want?" A waiter asked as he arrived at their table seemingly coming out of nowhere.
"I'll have the lasagna with a glass of iced tea." Miller said is a voice that sounded unsure if he had just made the right decision on what to eat.
"And for the lady?" Asked the waiter addressing Charlotte.
With a look of panic Lottie stared blankly at the menu hunting for something that she could dictate to the waiter. "Errmmm... 'll have the vegetable curry with honey and lemon tea." Like Miller her tone was uncertain if she'd make the right choice. Would her meal be palatable or would it eat her in return?
The waited made notes then moved away back to the depths he had arisen from. A silence fell over the pair. Licking her lips Lottie spoke. "I don't think I could live here, I think I'd become bored. There is something thrilling about living on the wing always dodging trouble."
"It makes you feel alive." Miller agreed, after all the only reason he was on the Warden other than being wanted for a crime he didn't commit, would have had to have been for the thrill which made him feel alive. "Do you ever think you'll get bored of dodging trouble and want to settle down?" He asked.
Lottie shurgged. "I don't know, maybe. I can't see it at the moment..." he gaze fell upon Miller for a moment. "But who knows. I mean the Warden wouldn't be my prime location to raise a kid."
At the second he heard the word 'kid' Miller was speechless, however he was saved from creating an awkward silence when the waiter arrived with their food.
"Vegetable curry with honey and lemon tea for the lady, and lasagna with a glass of iced tea for the gentleman." The waiters said as he placed their dishes in front of them. "Bon appetit."
Diving right in to his food Miller was surprised at how good it tasted; why it had to be one of the best lasagna's he had ever had. "This is quite good."He managed through a mouthful of lasagna.
"Mmmm," Lottie agreed spooning the creamy sauce. "Perfect. Now I really could get use to this."
"So could I..." Miller said trailing off to take a drink of his ice tea. "So could I."
