Mission:
Interlude - SB 611
Location: Warden Engineering
Jan had sent Jones a message, cutting short his lunch over on the Starbase he paid the 3 slips to be beamed back. Walking down to engineering, there were several crates strewn about and pieces of equipment in various stages of disarray. Walter saw two legs sticking out from a conduit and figured it was Jan, or someone trying to hotwire the ship.
"You ok down there?"
"Wha..oh, yeah I'm fine." Jan said, crawling out of the conduit.
"I hope I didn't interrupt anything, but I thought it was important." Jan said.
"Not at all, just a sandwich, and my crew takes importance over a sandwich, unless it is a really good one." Walter smiled and reached down and offered his hand. "What is going on?"
"The old girl is looking good, might actually be able to run her at top speed sometime soon without one of us in a space suit welding pieces back on as we go." Jones looked over at the new panel, it was operational and showing correct information. "I hope you took that out of the ships account and not your own."
"Oh it's no trouble, besides I had some other "items" I needed from the dealer." Jan said, pointing at a long brown box on the work table.
"I'm ah....going to be doing work on the bridge later on this evening, so if you experience any power outages or lights dimming by themselves, it's probably just me."
"That is fine, the old girl is yours to do with as you please." Jones walked over to the box and looked at the rifle, it was a thing of beauty and deadly in the right hands. "I think you are doing some great work here."
"Thanks..I was wondering, when was the last time you had an engineer on board? Amazing the ship's held together this long..."Jan said, glancing at the rifle.
"Just me actually, I was a mechanic before I was a captain, didn't pay nearly as well and I hated working for anyone else, it is just a pain in the arse running a ship and doing maintenance on it.. but before you.. I had about three other people look her before you came along, most of them took off running the other way."
"Ha ha, well it's not like I can go back to Flausten, or get off here at this base...so I'll stick around for a while. Oh, one last thing...Do not, under any reason...at all, use any of the ship's plumbing for at least the next 24 hours...unless you don't mind taking a bath in radioactive coolant..." Jan said.
"I'll make sure that I use the fleets facilities." Jones smiled. "I've got some more gear coming from the federation, hopefully some spare parts, some more upgraded structural things and shields and weaponry, I've worked out a pretty sweet deal with the commodore over there." Jones started walking towards the ladder leading out. "Just make sure that we can use the toilets when you are done, don't feel like using buckets." Walter grabbed the ladder and started pulling himself up. "If you need me give me a call I'll have my comm on." Jones pulled himself up the ladder and out of engineering.
"I'll get on it after I finish re-wiring this pile of crap..." Jan said to himself, looking around the engineering section.
A light on the ceiling dimmed and blew out, raining shards of glass and sparks onto the floor.
"You're not helping, you know..." Jan said to the ceiling, as if talking to the ship.
