Mnheia t'Llaiir glanced at her viewscreen. It had been one unfortunate event after another. If she were illogical like most of the galaxy, she might believe this as fate, but she was Vulcan.
Unfortunately, she was also stuck in a shuttle with non-functional warp engines. And the only food left was meat. And she was stuck in this shuttle with a passenger that happened to be a Ferengi.
And even more unfortunate, the Ferengi had suddenly died about 4 days ago, and was starting to decay. Mnheia's sensitive nasal cavity was aflame with displeasure due to the smell. But then again, it was better than her last job, a bank robbery. Or the enforcer gig. In reality, this was all terrible.
She had been forced out of Starfleet due to her disgrace in trying to weasel her way onboard the Warden. She was mocked by that crew, and sent on her way. Disgraced, she was denied access to her homeworld, and was forced into a life of poorly executed criminal activity. One failure after another.
And so it was fitting that her engines cut out abruptly, and the computer chimed, "Main Power depleted. Auxilliary power offline. Life-Support offline." Apparently, "fate" had it out for her.
t'Llaiir then realized that there was no comm. Nothing. But there was a flashing light coming from outside the ship. Upon further inspection, it seemed to be morse code. "Please prepare to be boarded stop remain unarmed or be fired upon stop".
