An opportunity for payback

470 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Session 5: Rush
Location: SS Groth

Krall was tired, the Groth's secondary systems were falling apart and his crew was struggling to get them repaired.

"Status of the engines?" Krall said to his engineer.

"We should have the warp engines back online in a few minutes." the engineer addams said.

"What about the comm systems?" Krall said.

"They're coming online now." Addams said.

"Finally, they should have been back online 2 days ago!" Krall shouted.

"Hey don't blame me Krall! This Klingon piece of shit should never have left space dock, I'm still amazed this thing held together at all when we jumped to warp with the structural integrity systems at 10%. That stupid engineer messing with your head." Addams said, the last part under his breath.

"I heard that, Curtis!" Krall said.

Krall turned on a monitor near his seat, and flipped through the channels, most of them were too full of static to make out, the antenna array was out of alignment. He finally settled on a channel that had less static than anything else.

The channel was showing a cheesy bounty hunting show, he had tuned in partway into a broadcast. A vessel name and registration were showing on the bottom of the screen.

"That's right folks! This is a record breaker! These folks are worth a cool 10 Million Bars of Latinum!" The woman's eyes closed in excitement.

"10 Million bars!! That is a lot of fish!!" The male cowboy smiled.

"That's right and there are bonuses for each of the crew!!!"

Krall was intrigued, normally he thought bounty hunting was a scuzzy, lowlife activity, but with his ship falling apart and his funds drastically drained, he turned up the volume.

"Walter Jones is a bonus of 1 Million Bars!" The male cowboy held up a picture of Walter Jones to the camera, a scraggily looking man, who was nearing 50.

"Yup! and 750,000 for his first mate Charlotte Ashcroft!" The female held up a picture of a younger woman to the camera.

"Be careful though I hear they are going to go down like Bonnie and Clyde!" The man grinned

"The three remaining crew are worth 500,000 bars each! Jan Valentine, Morgan Pass and Bruce Air!!" The woman squealed again as pictures of the other three showed on the screen.

"If interested contact the interlink bounty nodes! Standard information rates apply!! And we'll be right back after this commercial break!" The man smiled into the camera as the shows logo appeared.

"Valentine?!" Krall shouted, pounding his fist into the armrest, a mistake given that it was solid steel.

Krall remembered that sleazy human that ruined his career, shooting him in the groin, stealing his brick of latinum, and escaping his squad of soldiers by doing nothing more than knocking over a streetlight.

"Curtis, I need the engines back online now! I've got an opportunity for some payback coming up."
